Choosing the Right Vegas Casino for Eat, Sleep, and Play

Choosing the Right Vegas Casino for Eat, Sleep, and Play

Las Vegas is a popular tourist destination for many reasons, but mostly because it is known for its lights, parties, weddings, and casinos.

Whether you are going for a bachelor or bachelorette party, for a weekend getaway, or for the World Series of Poker tournament happening at the end of May, Vegas is ready to show you a fantastic time.

But before you start packing your bags, there are a couple of things that you should figure out. How you’re going to get there and when you are going are some critical details, but perhaps the most important is where you are going to stay and play.

This article is going to help you think of every aspect that you need to consider before you decide which casino is right for you.

One of the best things about Las Vegas, in my opinion, is that there are several casinos all in close proximity, so you can stay at one and play at another.

Several casinos will be within walking distance of most of the others, or you can always take a short taxi ride in between each one. If you want to chase your luck all the way down the Strip, that option is available to you.

Most people, however, prefer to choose a few casinos that are close to each other and bounce between those. Whether you are selecting a casino to play for a day or choosing a hotel to stay in for the duration of your trip, many of the same factors will impact your decision.

In the rest of this blog, I will list a few factors that you should consider when you choose a casino, and I will also recommend a couple of casinos that I think highlight that particular factor well.

I should point out that I am not being paid to recommend specific casinos over any of the others, and most of my recommendations come from a combination of personal experience and reading through online reviews. You might prefer a different casino over my suggestion, but you can rest assured that I am not recommending them because they paid me to.

Gambling

Considering that you are viewing this blog on a gambling website, it is safe for me to assume that you plan to gamble while you are in Las Vegas.

Most of the casinos on the Strip are going to offer the same games and similar slot machines.

But there are a couple of factors that might make one casino more appealing than another.

The first thing you should consider when choosing a casino is their loyalty program.

Every casino on the Strip has some form of loyalty program or another, so you have to select the one that most appeals to you. For example, the Infinity program at the Cosmopolitan pays more on slot machines than the other programs.

If you prefer to play at several casinos, the M Life program encompasses all of the casinos owned by MGM Resort International, including Bellagio, Luxor, and Aria.

Another thing to consider when choosing where to gamble is the minimum and maximum bets. A teacher with a $100 entertainment budget for the entire summer vacation is probably not going to want to venture in the same place as a millionaire looking to throw some money around for fun.

Each casino will have its own limits with minimums ranging from pennies to $25 and maximums ranging from $1,000-$25,000, depending on the casino and the game being played.

The older casinos are probably the best option for you if you are looking to have some fun on a budget. Choose a casino that offers penny slots and low minimums on table games.

For example, Excalibur has blackjack and other table games for $5/hand and penny slots. Circus Circus is another good option for gamblers who aren’t looking to wager too much.

If you are a high-roller looking to take significant risks in the hopes of winning big, you will want to visit some of the more exclusive casinos. The Wynn and Bellagio are both excellent options with minimum bets for table games starting at $25.

They also both offer several slot machines with $100 lines. Most casinos have an exclusive room for high-rollers with much higher minimums and maximums. In some cases, they will even lift the maximum altogether if you are a regular player.

There is certainly nothing wrong with bouncing between casinos and playing a little bit at each of them, but it is essential to know what you are getting into. If you would like more information on several Vegas casinos, check out our guide to gambling on the Las Vegas Strip.

Hotels

It is okay to wander between the various casinos throughout the day, but when the fun is done, you are going to want a nice place to rest up for the next day. Las Vegas has a plethora of hotel options, and if you are just looking for a comfortable bed, you can’t go wrong with any of them.

But if you are expecting your hotel to have a little bit more than nice pillows, you will need to consider what amenities you are looking for.

Before you even begin thinking about the amenities, you have to consider the location.

If this is your first time in Las Vegas, you probably think that because most of the casinos are on the Strip, they are very close to each other. This is true to an extent, but the Strip is more than four miles long, and some of the casinos aren’t even located on it. You can walk between some of the hotels, but for others, you may need to get a cab or ride the monorail.

If you have a general idea of the particular events that you have planned for your trip, you can be sure to pick a hotel near them. If you are planning on enjoying dinner and the rollercoasters on top of the Stratosphere, the SLS Las Vegas, Hilton Grand, and Circus Circus casinos are relatively close.

If you want to spend the day at the pool in Mandalay Bay, then Luxor, Excalibur, and Tropicana are your closest options. Caesars Palace, Bellagio, and the Venetian are all located toward the center of the Strip.

The pool is one of the most essential amenities that a hotel can offer. Spending your afternoon by the pool is the best way to beat the desert heat, and pretty much every casino has a pool for you to cool off.

If you plan on spending a significant amount of time at the pool, you can choose the one that best fits your style.

Mandalay Bay brings the beach to you with multiple pools, a lazy river, and a wave pool, and it is all surrounded by beach-like sand. Golden Nugget has a huge shark tank, so you can watch the sharks while you swim, or you can get up close and personal with the sharks when you ride the water slide that goes through their tank.

If you are looking for a pool with a view, the Cosmopolitan pool is on the third floor, so you can see over the Strip while you wade in the water.

Whether you are looking to pamper yourself with your winnings or relieve some of the stress of your losses, Las Vegas has plenty of spa options that are sure to leave you feeling relaxed. You can choose a range of combinations from a simple one-hour massage to a day full of combination treatments.

The Sahra Spa at the Cosmopolitan is an elegant affair offering private penthouses that include their own hydrotherapy tubs, steam rooms, treatment areas, and a wet bar for $95 an hour.

Of course, if you would rather spend that money on gambling, you can always book a specific treatment or use one of their smaller suites. The spa at Mandarin Oriental starts every treatment with a traditional Chinese foot ritual.

Another hotel amenity to consider is the entertainment options besides gambling.

There is no reason that you have to stay at a particular hotel to watch its show, but you might find it convenient to be staying in a hotel close to where the show is playing. That way, you have some time to get ready in the hotel room without feeling rushed to get to the show.

Other amenities that you might want to consider are the hotel’s fitness center, room service options, and access to nightlife. Do you want a mini-bar in the room, or do you prefer a full bar right down the stairs?

If you are traveling with children, what kinds of amenities will they require, and what types of attractions will keep them entertained?

All of these things are important to consider, but I suggest identifying the factors that are most important to you and then using some of these minor features to help you decide between a few good options.

Restaurants

You are going to need more than just cocktails to give you enough energy to keep gambling, so, at some point, you are going to have to step away from the craps table and sit down at the dinner table.

You have to decide what kind of dining experience you want for yourself. There are always various restaurants that aren’t affiliated with any casino, but if you want the convenience of having a nice restaurant in the same building, keep these things in mind.

Do you want to celebrate your jackpot with an elegant dinner? These formal restaurants offer the right atmosphere with award-winning dishes, but they will come at a higher price. Joel Robuchon is the Three-Michelin-Star, French, fine-dining restaurant at the MGM Grand.

Formal attire is required, and the menu is seasonal, but you won’t be disappointed once you experience their level of service. They have a bread cart, a cheese cart, and a dessert cart that allow you several delicious options in addition to your meal, and if you order tea, they will cut the leaves from a plant to fresh-brew it in front of you.

When you really want to take it to the next level, try getting a reservation at  by Jose Andres.  is an exclusive experience, with only eight seats being served, by the chef himself, only twice each night.

Jose Andre creates exciting dishes using masterful techniques that you won’t forget. A night at  will cost at least $250 per person, so be sure to have your winnings handy.

If you want a nice dinner without spending a fortune or with a romantic option, go to the restaurant with a view. Top of the World is the restaurant at the top of the Stratosphere that rotates slowly as you eat, so you can get a 360-degree view of the city that is breathtaking at sunset.

Their four-course tasting option allows you to try a soup, appetizer, steak, and dessert, each with its own paired wine sample.

For something a little more casual but still delicious, I recommend the Pink Taco at the Hard Rock Hotel. This Caribbean-American fusion restaurant has all of your usual Mexican favorites, with several unique house specialties that you may have never tried before.

They even have a pink fortune taco that is their version of traditional fortune cookies. Most pink tacos contain words of wisdom, but some surprise you with prizes like free drinks or appetizers.

Las Vegas is home to almost fifty buffet-style restaurants, so all-you-can-eat sort of takes on a new meaning here. The Buffet at the Wynn is my favorite because it offers 120 options in small enough portions that you can try them all.

You can enjoy Frank Sinatra’s family recipe for spaghetti and meatballs, a rotisserie wall with a variety of slow-roasted meats, and a bottomless beverage option. But what really takes the cake is the chocolate fountain that is the centerpiece of the dessert table.

Family-friendly options include Giordano’s Chicago-style pizza place located in Bally’s, the Rainforest CafĂ© at the Harmon Corner Retail Center, and Bruxie, which takes chicken and waffles and turns it into a variety of sandwiches.

Don’t forget about the plethora of dinner-and-a-show options available as well.

No matter where you are staying or playing, you will have a variety of options for restaurants. Hopefully, these recommendations gave you some ideas of where to start.

You certainly don’t need to plan your entire vacation around the food, but it’s always nice to include an exclusive dining experience while you are away from home. The best part is that you don’t have to do the dishes!

Conclusion

Las Vegas truly has something for everyone. I hope that my thoughts and recommendations have helped you to narrow down all of the casinos to consider which one you might like to stay or play in.

The most important thing that you have to remember is to have fun! Enjoy your vacation in Vegas!
