Colin Kaepernick, Nike, and Trump – 3 Prop Bets to Consider

It’s hard to believe. The 2018 NFL season is here, and we’re still talking about a guy who hasn’t played since 2016. Not only are we talking about him, but some folks are becoming a bit obsessed.

But why?

The sports world is so enamored with the “Colin Kaepernick situation.” They can’t stop talking about it everywhere I look. For crying out loud, I even saw stories and clips of people burning their Nike shoes as a result of the global corporation aligning with Kaepernick in a recent slogan.

Listen, I am not a fan of those who kneel during the National Anthem. I do not support or condone the individuals who choose to act in a disrespectful way as a form of rebellion.

But I’m not going to start throwing away perfectly good clothing or start lighting my Air Maxes on fire just because I’m not on board with a politically-motivated decision that their upper management has made.

That just seems a bit silly, and quite frankly, like something that someone does if they are purely seeking attention and aren’t secure with their own beliefs.

I am a fan of the NFL, and I want to focus on and talk about things related to the sport of football. But I am finding out that it isn’t the prop bets like how many touchdowns Aaron Rodgers will throw that have garnered all the attention.

Nobody seems to care if the Saints are going to win the NFC South or if the Patriots will win more than 11 and a half games?

You want to know which prop bets available on BetOnline.ag I keep getting asked about?

It’s these crazy ones about Nike’s stock value at the end of the month and whether or not President Trump will tweet about Colin in the next few days.

Personally, I’d rather talk about things that are actually happening on the football field, but my job, first and foremost, is to give the readers what they want.

Well, now that you’ve asked about Colin Kaepernick and want to know what this recent Nike ad means moving forward, I’m here to break it down.

Some extremely reputable and successful betting sites are coming out with prop bets regarding the former San Francisco 49er quarterback and this entire fiasco, and I found three that I actually think I can make some money on.

So if you are like me and are normally a big fan of what happens on the gridiron, take a couple minutes to break and check out these entertaining props.

Perhaps you’ll see some value you like!

I briefly mentioned the new Nike ad where they feature Colin Kaepernick as one of their athletes for their 30th anniversary of the famous “Just Do It” motto.

But let me bring those of you who are unaware of what all this hoopla is about up to speed.

Nike released a commercial that shows a large image of Kaepernick’s face with some carefully selected words.

Colin Kaepernick Nike Just do it

Clearly, Nike is standing by Colin’s past behavior, specifically his decision to not stand during the pre-game National Anthem. The immediate backlash surrounding their endorsement of the widely-debated figure has had an immediate effect on Nike’s stock value, and not in a good way.

Since the news of the ad and watching longstanding Nike fans erupt in anger, Nike has seen its conglomerate stock price take a dip of nearly 3%. Hovering right around $80 per share, it is understandable that the conservative traders have already panicked and jumped ship given what has occurred.

But is this “Kaepernick thing” really going to have that much of a negative effect as time goes by?

Nike is a multinational brand that distributes clothes, shoes, apparel, and various accessories – to the tune of over 30 billion dollars of revenue per year. They have offices in 46 different countries and have been dominating the athletic footwear and clothing industry for years.

Okay, so there are a few bozos out there pleading to be noticed who decided to play pyrotechnics with their Nike shoes they just bought three days ago. But not everyone is that idiotic.

There are plenty of people like myself who could care less about the political ideologies of a company when deciding what shoes to buy.

When I am choosing which socks are most comfortable or which t-shirt fits me best, I don’t care about things like politics. I am not concerning myself with who said what on some commercial that has nothing to do with the quality of the product I am purchasing.

If anything, all this will do is bring more attention and awareness to Nike, which in turn will end up leading to more and more sales. Trust me, more people are searching and clicking on Nike-related things as a result of this headline. And I see that as a good thing for their business.

For that reason, I see Nike taking a hit for maybe a few days, but after that, things will bounce back. Once people start focusing on and gossiping about the next debatable topic in sports, things will blow over, and Nike will be back over $80 per share where it belongs.

Trump to Mention Kaepernick in a Tweet by September 10th

The cat’s already out of the bag.

If you thought that President Trump was shy about expressing his opinions via the Twitter machine and social media, where the heck have you been?

I already watched Trump publicly call out Kaepernick during an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, and I know that “Prima Donald” isn’t afraid to stir up the pot.

Although there isn’t much to be said about the matter at this point, Donald generally can’t refrain himself when given the opportunity and the limelight. The more he gets asked questions about it and is poked for a response, the more his internal temperature will heat up.

Expect “Agent Orange” to let loose with how he feels about “Kap” any moment now.

The +300 price makes this bet even more enticing, so I’ll take a shot and wait for Trump to boil over.

Will Kaepernick Be on an NFL Roster by Week 17?

For me, this is the easiest bet of the bunch. I’m even surprised this wager is on the table at the price that it is.

I think I’ll see pigs flying and Bigfoot in my backyard before I see Colin Kaepernick in an NFL uniform, but maybe that’s just me.

Okay, so perhaps that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but I think you get my point.

Colin Kaepernick has had ample opportunities to prove that playing football is what matters to him most. But each time he has had the chance to put this “National Anthem distraction” behind him and focus on the game he loves, he drops the ball.

If Colin wanted to get back into the NFL and possibly start at quarterback for one of the 32 teams in the National Football League, he knew exactly what he needed to do and how he needed to conduct himself.

The guy appears to be much more interested in making a name for himself and speaking out for what he believes in than swallowing his pride and bending over for an NFL owner.

I’m not saying there is anything wrong with his decision, as he is clearly allowed to make whatever decision he feels is best for him. But when it comes to playing football in the NFL, he certainly hasn’t done himself any favors.

Clearly it’s not that important to him, or he’d make the necessary changes.

Do you remember when Kaepernick filed grievance papers for collusion against the NFL owners last season?

He claimed that the reason he wasn’t in the league was because the owners were colluding, essentially teaming up with one another to boycott Kaepernick’s services.

And I say, look at the facts, dude.

You are 30 years old and have a career completion percentage of under 60%. We have guys who come in off the street and throw for 300 yards in an NFL game, yet you have averaged a paltry 177.8 passing yards/game throughout your career.

Is it possible that you aren’t a viable starting quarterback at this level? Is it possible that your meager performances combined with all the baggage and distraction you bring to a locker room isn’t worth the headache?

The writing is on the wall here. That’s why we have to lay -300.

PICKNo-300
Conclusion

Getting ready for the NFL season typically means I am sifting through all the preseason props, trying to unlock the value. Little did I know that some of that value would be located in the quasi-entertainment prop section of the NFL wagers.

The fact that these bets are being offered and receiving loads of action is a testament to how much people care about Colin Kaepernick and the issue of standing/not standing during the National Anthem.

You saw my take on how I think they’ll play out, but you may have a different opinion. If you see it differently, that’s okay.
